Hollywoodcrush Talks With Lily Collins at WonderCon 'How Lily is Similar to Clary'

MTV: Hollywoodcrush interview Lily Collins at WonderCon (Mar. 30). Check out the video over at Hollywood.com
"I actually saw a lot of similarities between Clary and I," Lily said. "She's a go-getter. She's feisty. She fights for what she believes in, and I really associate a lot of her qualities with mine, but I also wanted to bring this realness to her, like she was just the girl next door, because I didn't want her to be this caricature of a fan-favorite heroine in a book. I wanted her to be someone you could be friends with next door."
Not an easy task, considering Clary is actually a descendant of a long line of demon-destroying Nephilim known as Shadowhunters. (I don't know about you, but the only super-human ability my childhood neighbor had was flying across the Slip 'n Slide really fast.) So how did Lily accomplish this feat?

"[By] incorporating a bit more humor into some of the situations with [Clary] and the boys—just not making her a constant victim," she explained. "Because I think when you're going through so many whats and whys in the span of every five minutes, those reactions could become really similar, and it becomes more of this, 'Oh, poor me. I'm in this situation.' When she's really like, 'Another problem? Solved! Another problem? Let's go!' So it's that really tenacious attitude I tried to incorporate more."

Lily Collins Talks About Stunts in a Mini-Dress, Godfrey Gao, Playing Clary...

In an exclusive chat with PagetoPremier and Fangirlish, Lily Collins talks about the challenges of playing Clary, her favourite part about Clary, why Jamie is Jace, and performing stunts in a mini-dress.
What was that like wearing that outfit, first of all?Well, it’s funny because in the series, I say to Isabelle when she’s giving me this makeover, like, “This is a top,” and she’s like, “It’s a dress.” So already you know that it’s like some crazy skimpy little number, and, so, we did a lot of the fight sequences where I’m in this outfit. And I have like thigh-high leather boots with this mini bandage dress. You can imagine doing stunts, falling on the floor… All that stuff is quite awkward when you have very minimal attire on. But we had one version, apparently, that was longer – but it was like an inch longer – for stunts. It really was not much longer. But everyone kind of acknowledged the fact that it’s hard to move in, so the stunts were somewhat coordinated around the dress in some situations. But it was worth wearing because, you know, it just shows Clary’s transformation from this kind of tomboyish girl to a woman, and then thrust into this situation with six-inch heels, boots, and a little leather dress. It’s kind of… awkward.
What is one thing you admire about your character?I admire how tenacious she is. She never gives up, even though she’s put in these situations that no normal teenager would ever go through. Not only is she going through kind of, you know, the question of who she likes, who she doesn’t like – normal girl stuff – she’s also conquering these questions of, you know, how am I going to save my mom from all evil? And she’s able to get through it, and she doesn’t give up.
Can you tell us a bit about the training you did for the movie? It was insane training. I did physical fitness training three months prior to starting and then every day we would train, so even if that meant getting up literally at like 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning before set we’d go train,

While at WonderCon, Cassandra Clare Talks About 'City of Bones' Casting, Last Book...

Collider released their interview video with Jamie Campbell Bower (which you can watch here) just a couple of days ago. As a follow up, they interviewed Cassie too!
Collider: When you started receiving interest about turning your book into a film, were you immediately excited about it, or were you hesitant about the idea?
CASSANDRA CLARE: I was a little hesitant. I was excited about the idea, but I also was a little freaked out. I grew up in L.A. and I worked for The Hollywood Reporter. I knew enough about the business to know that the usual role of the author on a movie is to get out of the way and not say anything. So I thought, “How do I feel about turning this whole project over to people and letting them do what they want with it, not even knowing about it?” And then, Unique Features approached me – and that’s Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, and they did The Lord of the Rings, which are my favorite movies in the world – and I thought, “Well, if I’m going to sell this to somebody, it should be the people who made my favorite movies.”

With so many young adult books being turned into movies, what would you say to people to get them to understand that this is a very different type of story with its own mythology?

Lily Collins talks Bringing Clary to the Big Screen

EntertainmentWeekly interviews Lily Collins.
What has your contact with author Cassandra Clare been like?
I didn’t meet with her before I was cast. I spoke with her on the phone a few times during the casting process but I met her for the first time the weekend right before we started shooting, when she came out to Toronto for the table read. We all went out to dinner with her. It was so crazy to be at the table with her, the creator of these stories. The ability to pick her brain about things, and hear her opinions and ideas and just for her to be at the table read and give her two cents on the script. To have her involvement and enthusiasm in the project was unparallelled. I just wanted her to revel in her books being made into movies! I wanted her to come on set and I wanted to see her reaction to the scripts and all this kind of stuff. It was really amazing to have her there and hear her feedback.
Fans are quite pumped about seeing Jace on the big screen. What do you like about his performance?
I love that Jamie plays Jace in this way – he’s got this amazing balance between being this cocky and sarcastic guy, which is what we love about Jace, and then all of sudden he can turn and be incredibly vulnerable and emotional and sensitive. And Jamie’s got these two sides to him – I think it takes an incredible actor to be able to want to show a vulnerable side, because I think so many actors just want to be this masculine character. Jamie can be doing amazing fight choreography and flips and sword fighting, and the next second he can be getting emotional and cry. … I’ve said from day one [when Jamie walked in], that was it. He had this amazing playful energy that is so collaborative. I cannot wait for people to see him as Jace because it is Jace come to life. I’m really proud of him.

Robert Sheehan Talks About 'City of Bones' in a Radio Interview

Interviewer: There is a weird kind of shadowy vampire element to it. Is it going to be the new Twilight or do you not like those types of comparisons?
Robert: It definitely runs along the same ilk; there are similar aspects to the story. It's very much like an old fashion kind of story book. The director, a very lovely man name Harald Zwart, he shot this film. He shot the film on 16 mm which for a film maker it gives it an old quality. I think he was trying to make a old story book type film. There is similarities to Twilight but has much more of a magical feel.
Interview: I heard you compared to Indiana Jones, it's kind of adveture-y, right?
Robert: Ya, when I first read the script that was one of the things that struck me most. There's a wonderfully tendential nature to the adventure they have. They go off to do one thing and then they get pulled and dragged from one thing to the next. They get distracted, very much like Indiana did, back in the day.
Interviewer: But it has that half human element to it doesn't it?

Cassandra Clare's Set Diary from The Mortal Instruments: Day 5

Teen has been so nice by sharing Cassie's Set Diary from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Now, we are on Day 5 featuring Cassie as a Demon Cat.
Day Five: Friday
Because I am actually in a scene today, I have to show up early for costume and makeup and hair. I pass Robbie on the way to set — most parts of sets are unglamorous, back alleys and loading docks and that sort of thing.
I get a trailer of my own(!), bonus of which means SIDEBURNS GUY has to bring me tea. We discuss his sudden fame.

Lily Collins's review on the theatrical trailer to 'City of Bones'

The theatrical trailer is premiering at WonderCon this Saturday. While the trailer will be released online on Monday.
Lily Collins has a chat with the HollywoodReporter
It ends, and you have to watch it again because there’s so much packed into the trailer. The first time I watched it, I asked to watch it three other times just ‘cause it’s so much that happens, it’s like a whirlwind.
As well as hopefully pleasing the fans of the series, I think we're going to invite new people in and make them obsessed with the story as well,” Collins says. “I couldn't be prouder of the project. I'm so excited for people to see it. I really think Harald [Zwart, the director] did an amazing job of taking what could've been a CGI-heavy, action-packed film and really made it about heart and character and emotion. Special effects are just the icing on top.
