The principal photography for The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes was set to shoot in Toronto Monday, September, 23, however after a soft opening weekend, Constantin Films will "analyze the results to date and reposition the franchise in order to maximize the results for future installments.”

Constantin Film has a long tradition of adapting books to the big screen. Pushing back the start of production of CITY OF ASHES was a decision we did not take lightly. But after speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place. THEIsn't Martin Moskowicz and the whole team the best? I guess we'll just have to wait a bit longer, but I'm sure a better movie will be worth the wait.
MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series has an incredibly loyal and ardent fan base and is a bestselling book series. While taking Cassandra Claire’s vision to the screen we want to make sure to draw on the full potential of the franchise.
I have the utmost respect for the #tmi fandom. we want to make CoA right. we will make good use of the time.Hopefully we will get another Mortal Instruments movie, so keep on tweeting #WeNeedCityOfAshes
