Kevin Zegers Talks About Alec Lightwood and Says "He's Kind of a Bad-ass" with Bello Magazine

Kevin Zegers is featured on this month's Bello Magazine cover. Inside the magazine, Kevin Zeger talks about his upcoming movie -The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones- and the character he plays (Alec Lightwood).
“The thing that I didn’t want was for him to be some generic, prototypical character, what people would expect from the gay character,” Zegers said. “For me, it was about creating a character whose sexuality didn’t matter…I actually don’t think it’s that big of a f**** issue anymore. Certainly not with me, and especially not with the generation that read this book. So it wasn’t something that we really focused on.
But one thing I was aware of was the fact that there haven’t been many great examples of a really strong gay character, one of the leads in a really big movie who happens to be gay and who’s also kind of a bad-ass.”

Robert Sheehan Compares Himself to his 'MORTAL INSTRUMENTS' Character - Simon Lewis

From fansshare, Robert Sheehan compares himself to Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instruments.
"I think Simon is a pioneer of counter-culture, he’s very much like a bohemian guy and that’s very much what I am. In that sense I’m drawn to things that define themselves by being on the fringe; culturally, musically, theatrically all that stuff. I think that’s how young people find each other a lot of times by what kind of culture they are interested in, what they have in common." He added, "He feels very much like a New York kid who is constantly discovering things. New York being a hotbed of creativity. The fact that he’s in bands, and he’s just kind of reaching out creatively all the time and I’m drawn to people like that. And I’d like to think I am one of those."

Harald Zwart Talks About 'CITY OF ASHES' and Sigourney Weaver as Imogen Herondale

Harald Zwart sat down with Østfold from NRK.no to talk about The Mortal Instruments. (Translated by google)

Harald Zwart starts off with talking about why he wanted to film The Mortal Instruments:
We [Harald Zwart and his wife] decided to make a film in this genre because we believe it is important that young girls have good role models. We even have a daughter - and when we see the role models girls are presented, we thought it was appropriate to contribute a lead character who is strong and smart, and who finds her own power; it was the desire for our movie.

Harald Zwart then talks about the amazing cast, especially Lily Collins (who will be playing Clary Fray):
She has the ability to look completely normal - well, almost geeky - if we wanted it. She shows tremendous charisma. She is a very talented actor. She has really gone in depth [in the movie], which is very inspiring.

About The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes:
The sequel, City of Ashes, will film in Toronto. [The movie is casted] with three-time Oscar nominee, Sigourney Weaver.
It will be exciting to work with such an amazing actor, who is associated with the genre. Alien is in the Top 5 list, reveals Zwart, characterizing Shadowhunters like a cross between Harry Potter and The Exorcist.

We won't do anything too different. We create even more complex psychological drama, where we play even more with people's perceptions. The funny thing about science fiction is that it allows for strong measures.

Why you Should Get a Free Copy of THE SHADOW WORLD BOOK CLUB: COMPANION READINGS by Liv Spencer

Liv Spencer has written Navigating the Shadow World which " takes readers deep into the rich universe of Cassandra Clare’s New York Times–bestselling Shadowhunter Chronicles. With intelligent but accessible explorations of each volume of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series, Liv Spencer delivers the next best thing to a Shadowhunter’s Codex with commentary on the books as well as the references to folklore, legends, and literature. Spencer also recounts Cassandra Clare’s publishing story, from journalist and fan fiction writer to superstar author; explores the cast and crew who brought the first book to life in the film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, premiering August 2013; and delves into the TMI fandom, a passionate community that is anything but mundane. From the Claveto Chairman Meow, demon pox to dastardly ducks, Navigating the Shadow World is your very own insight rune."

We've asked Liv Spencer: what sets Navigating the Shadow World apart from the other guides (i.e. The Shadowhunter's Guide, The Official Illustrated Movie Companion, etc.)?
Liv Spencer: I think the thing that really sets Navigating the Shadow World is that its heart is in the book series — each book in The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices gets an extensive part devoted to it, where we dive deep into the characters, literary and cultural references, and mythology. (Boy did we get to know our demonology — and our angels — doing research for this book!) Navigating the Shadow World also gives readers info on Cassie's story, the making-of the movie, the cast's biographies, and details on the fandom. We really wanted it to be an exhaustive and complete look at what makes fans worldwide love the Shadowhunter Chronicles so deeply and loyally. I think it's a different perspective on the series than some of the other books.

You can get The Shadow World Book Club: Companion also by Liv Spencer for free! Visit ECW Press for the PDF and/or ePub version and visit iTunes for the Apple iBookstore.
About The Shadow World Book Club: Companion:
A curated selection of the poems, plays, and works of fiction that Cassandra Clare quotes from in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. Liv Spencer highlights the specific text used in each volume of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices in this companion reader to Navigating the Shadow World. With selections from Hamlet, A Tale of Two Cities, Tennyson, Dante, and many more!

Lily Collins Tells Teen.com About the "Family" She Acquired While Filming 'THE MORTAL INSTRUMETS'

@teengrams
A writer for Teen.com had the chance to meet Lily Collins and ask her questions from Mortal Instruments fans and "Lilians". They discuss topics ranging from The Mortal Instruments to love advice.

Lily Collins explains how The Mortal Instruments has changed her style:
Oh, I totally think being a Shadowhunter taught me a lot about experimenting with my style. So I have sort of been wearing more, like, leather or [an] edgier and sexier wardrobe. The boots were awesome. I wore boots very similar to those the other day doing press for the mall tour. I wouldn’t recommend running in them. I wear less chains than all the Shadowhunters do, and no harnesses — that’s all for practical reasons, but I do think the Shadowhunter mentality of that sleek, edgy, action figure-y style influenced my more mature, sexier style.
Lily also explains the "family" she has acquired:
Robbie’s just hilarious. Like, he’s Irish and he just has this, like, very European, funny nature to him. When he came in, right away, we clicked as best friends. He’s so easy to get along with — it’s very hard not to get along with Robbie. Kevin, he and Jamie have the perfect dynamic because they’re catty toward each other, but they’re also — they have fun with each other. We all on set were a family. We all struggled together; we all sweat together; in training, we all fought together. And Kevin Zegers has become literally like family to me, protecting me on set as Clary, but then off set becoming so close with [him] and his wife. And Jemima [West] jumped right in there, she came in not knowing anyone, and we all just blended so well together. I can’t wait to go shoot the sequel so we can be a family again.

Godrey Gao Talks About 'The Mortal Instruments: CITY OF BONES' For MSN HK (We Have the Translation)

Godfrey Gao seems to be having a photoshoot with MSN Hong Kong. Looks like Godfrey Gao is also doing some Mortal Instruments promoting in Asia.

Here's what Godfrey Gao had to say about The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (if using this translation, please credit us!):

"I’d like to say that I am very lucky to have been able to have the chance to take part in the TMI franchise. It wasn’t easy to get this opportunity— I had to go through many castings to get the part. The role is something really new/different for me (it’s not something I can use my personal experiences to play/fall back on). This is a great movie that’s coming out in Hong Kong soon. Go see it!"
The video is in a different language, but it's always nice to see some Godfrey Gao posing!
