Catch up on the Latest News About Cassandra Clare's Next Next Series: THE LAST HOURS

A few days back, Cassandra Clare had revealed the mysterious THL is short for The Last Hours. The title is inspired by Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
You have been in every line I have ever read, since I first came here, the rough common boy whose poor heart you wounded even then. You have been in every prospect I have ever seen since — on the river, on the sails of the ships, on the marshes, in the clouds, in the light, in the darkness, in the wind, in the woods, in the sea, in the streets. You have been the embodiment of every graceful fancy that my mind has ever become acquainted with. The stones of which the strongest London buildings are made, are not more real, or more impossible to be displaced by your hands, than your presence and influence have been to me, there and everywhere, and will be. Estella, to the last hours of my life, you cannot choose but remain part of my character, part of the little good in me, part of the evil.
The Last Hours talk about the next generation after Will and Tessa (i.e. their children)
The Last Hours is a new Shadowhunters series set in 1903. It deals with Will and Tessa’s children, James and Lucie Herondale, as well as Cordelia Carstairs, Charlotte and Henry’s children, Tatiana Blackthorn’s children, the Lightwood kids, and many more. 1903 is right around the time the Victorian era tips over into the Edwardian era — beautiful clothes, fabulous history and so much more that I’m excited to write about!
There will be 3 books in this series: Chain of Thorns, Chain of Gold, and Chain of Iron. These titles are also inspired by Great Expectations:
Imagine one selected day struck out of it, and think how different its course would have been. Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.
Just like The Infernal Devices is interconnected with The Mortal Instruments, The Last Hours will be interconnected with The Dark Artifices:
The books will interconnect with The Dark Artifices trilogy as two separate trilogies that are also the stories of the Blackthorns, Herondales and Carstairs, much like TMI and The Infernal Devices interconnected despite taking place in different time periods and locations. The exact order of publication isn’t decided yet. Lady Midnight, the first of the Dark Artifices, will certainly be the next Shadowhunter book coming out, and I’ll keep you up to date on the publication order when it’s nailed down.
Here are some characters from The Last Hours illustrated by Cassandra Jean:

New Valentine's Day CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE Snippet

It's a bit late, but your Valentine's Day Weekend just got better! Cassandra Clare released a new City of Heavenly Fire snippet just for us on Valentine's Day.
“Julian,” said Jia, in the same gentle voice, “would you do something for us? Would you take up the Mortal Sword?”
Clary sat up straight. She had held the Mortal Sword: she had felt the weight of it. The cold, like hooks in your skin, dragging the truth out of you. You couldn’t lie holding the Mortal Sword, but the truth, even a truth you wanted to tell, was agony.
“They can’t,” she whispered. “He’s just a kid —“
“He’s the oldest of the kids who escaped the Institute,” Jace said under his breath. “They don’t have a choice.”
Julian nodded, his thin shoulders straight. “I’ll take it.”
Robert Lightwood passed behind the podium then and went to the table. He took up the sword and returned to stand in front of Julian. The contrast between them was almost funny: the big, barrel-chested man and the lanky, wild-haired boy.

Julian reached a hand up and took the sword. As his hand closed around the hilt, he shuddered, a ripple of pain that was quickly forced down. Emma, behind him, started forward, and Clary caught a glimpse of the look on her face — pure fury — before Helen caught at her and pulled her back.
City of Heavenly Fire will be released on May, 27th:

Read EW's Interview With Cassandra Clare and an Excerpt from CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE

With the release of the City of Heavenly Fire cover, Entertainment Weekly also released an excerpt from the book plus an exclusive interview with Cassandra Clare.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First of all, what do you think about the cover?
CASSANDRA CLARE: I really love this cover. Cliff [Nielsen] has done all of my covers since the beginning, and I think he has created a unique look that is specific to the series. We talked back in the beginning about deciding who was going to go on what cover, and that this cover was going to end up with Clary and her brother. This is the big face-off. This is the book where she goes up against her brother Sebastian, and he is the big villain. It’s kind of like a Batman/Joker cover. … And in a way, there’s a play of light and dark going on on the cover, and that sets up a big battle between good and evil with Clary standing for good and Sebastian standing for evil. There’s also little clues for the readers who have been reading the series a long time in the weapons that they’re holding, in the necklace that Clary is wearing, and especially in the landscape that they’re standing on. It gives a hint about what’s coming and what’s going to happen in the book.

See the HD CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE Cover

Yesterday, the City of Heavenly Fire cover was released on CBS television, and we all freaked out because it is breathtaking. But now we can check out the details on the cover with this HD cover Cassandra Clare released:
So, the nice version of the cover of City of Heavenly Fire that went up on TV yesterday!
Yes, that is Clary and Sebastian. Yes, Clary is wearing white. She does wear white in the book at a certain point. There are interesting details up close about both their weapons, and if you look closely you can see the chain of Clary’s necklace. Remember the covers of the books don’t use the runes from the Codex or that we saw in the movie. They are pretty designs, but they don’t mean anything.
