A few days back, Cassandra Clare had revealed the mysterious THL is short for The Last Hours. The title is inspired by Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
Find out more information about these characters here.
So that's a whole lot of upcoming Shadowhunter novels.... If you're slightly confused, check out the timeline bellow:
You have been in every line I have ever read, since I first came here, the rough common boy whose poor heart you wounded even then. You have been in every prospect I have ever seen since — on the river, on the sails of the ships, on the marshes, in the clouds, in the light, in the darkness, in the wind, in the woods, in the sea, in the streets. You have been the embodiment of every graceful fancy that my mind has ever become acquainted with. The stones of which the strongest London buildings are made, are not more real, or more impossible to be displaced by your hands, than your presence and influence have been to me, there and everywhere, and will be. Estella, to the last hours of my life, you cannot choose but remain part of my character, part of the little good in me, part of the evil. The Last Hours talk about the next generation after Will and Tessa (i.e. their children)
The Last Hours is a new Shadowhunters series set in 1903. It deals with Will and Tessa’s children, James and Lucie Herondale, as well as Cordelia Carstairs, Charlotte and Henry’s children, Tatiana Blackthorn’s children, the Lightwood kids, and many more. 1903 is right around the time the Victorian era tips over into the Edwardian era — beautiful clothes, fabulous history and so much more that I’m excited to write about! There will be 3 books in this series: Chain of Thorns, Chain of Gold, and Chain of Iron. These titles are also inspired by Great Expectations:
Imagine one selected day struck out of it, and think how different its course would have been. Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.Just like The Infernal Devices is interconnected with The Mortal Instruments, The Last Hours will be interconnected with The Dark Artifices:
The books will interconnect with The Dark Artifices trilogy as two separate trilogies that are also the stories of the Blackthorns, Herondales and Carstairs, much like TMI and The Infernal Devices interconnected despite taking place in different time periods and locations. The exact order of publication isn’t decided yet. Lady Midnight, the first of the Dark Artifices, will certainly be the next Shadowhunter book coming out, and I’ll keep you up to date on the publication order when it’s nailed down. Here are some characters from The Last Hours illustrated by Cassandra Jean:

Yesterday, the City of Heavenly Fire cover was released on CBS television, and we all freaked out because it is breathtaking. But now we can check out the details on the cover with this HD cover Cassandra Clare released:
So, the nice version of the cover of City of Heavenly Fire that went up on TV yesterday!
Yes, that is Clary and Sebastian. Yes, Clary is wearing white. She does wear white in the book at a certain point. There are interesting details up close about both their weapons, and if you look closely you can see the chain of Clary’s necklace. Remember the covers of the books don’t use the runes from the Codex or that we saw in the movie. They are pretty designs, but they don’t mean anything.

In case you missed it, the next installment of The Bane Chronicles was released last week. And because Cassandra Clare accidentally missed the release, she's making up for it by giving us an excerpt:
Magnus had been interested by Clary, the little redheaded scrap who had grown into a—slightly bigger little redheaded scrap, but had not thought he would be terribly interested in the companions she had found for herself. Not the nondescript mundane boy; not golden-eyed Jace Wayland, who reminded Magnus of too much of a past that he would rather forget; and certainly not either of the Lightwood siblings, the dark boy and girl whose parents Magnus had good reason to dislike.
It made no sense that his eyes had been drawn to Alec, over and over again. Alec had hung to the back of their little group, had made no effort to attract the eye. He had striking coloring, the rare combination of black hair and blue eyes that had always been Magnus’s favorite, and Magnus supposed that was why he had looked in Alec’s direction at first. Strange to see the coloringthat had so distinguished Will and his sister, so many miles and years gone by, and on someone with an entirely different last name …
Then Alec had smiled at one of Magnus’s jokes, and the smile had lit a lamp in his solemn face, making his blue eyes brilliant, and briefly taking Magnus’s breath away. And when Magnus’s attention had been held, he’d seen a flicker of returned interest in Alec’s eyes, a mixture of guilt, intrigue, and pleasure at Magnus’s attention. Shadowhunters were old-fashioned about such matters, which was to say bigoted and hidebound, as they were about everything. Magnus had been approached by male Shadowhunters before, of course, but always in a hole-and-corner way, always as if they’d been doing Magnus some huge favor and as if Magnus’s touch, though desired, might sully them. (Magnus had always turned them down.) It had been a shock to see such feelings open and innocent on a beautiful boy’s face.
When Magnus had winked at Alec and told him to call him, it had been a reckless impulse, little more than a whim. He had certainly not expected the Shadowhunter on his doorstep a few days later, asking for a date. Nor had he expected the date to go so spectacularly bizarrely, or expected to like Alec quite so much afterward…

Jordan Gavaris of Orphan Black has been selected to read What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything: (And Who You're Not Officially Dating Anyway) (also known as the eighth installment of The Bane Chronicles). Cassandra Clare's words on Jordan Gavaris:
Hello! Cute boy got your attention? I am zipping by in the middle of editing to announce that Jordan Gavaris of Orphan Black will be reading the next of the Bane Chronicles. If you haven’t seen Orphan Black, Jordan’s character Felix is one of the most fantastic things about an already fantastic show with amazing performances, and we’re so happy to have Jordan reading what might be the funniest of the Bane Chronicles installments: What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything. In which Magnus angsts, calls Ragnor, and seeks advice from a tentacled demon about his love life.
Look out for an interview where I chat with Jordan about reading the Bane Chronicles and also angle for Orphan Black spoilers. (If you aren’t watching it, you should be! Sarah RB turned me onto it and I am grateful enough to forgive her for the stunt she pulled in Italy with the bat.)
Welcome, Jordan. :)

While writing, Cassandra Clare tends to listen to certain tracks over and over again. These songs have small connections to the feeling of the story. Underneath each song is -what I think is- the verse that applies most to the plot of The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire.
1. "I’m Sorry I Love You" by the Magnetic Fields
7. "Samson" by Regina Spektor
8. "Control" by Garbage
1. "I’m Sorry I Love You" by the Magnetic Fields
A single rose in your garden dwells2. Ryan Star “Losing your Memory”
Like any rose it’s not itself
It is my love in your garden grows
but let’s pretend it’s just a rose
Well I’m sorry that I love you
It’s a phase that I’m going through
There is nothing that I can do
and I’m sorry that I love you
Do not listen to my song
Don’t remember it, don’t sing along
Let’s pretend it’s a work of art
Let’s pretend it’s not my heart.
The rose will fade when summer’s gone
The song will fade and I’ll be gone
because my heart is dying too
and it’s all the same to you.
Call all your friends3. Airborne Toxic Event, “Timeless”
And tell them you’re never coming back
Cause this is the end
Pretend that you want it
Don’t react The damage is done
The police are coming too slow now
I would have died
I would have loved you all my life.
Just help me through this moment4. "Us Ones In Between" by Sunset Rubdown
After everything I told you
How the weight of their loss is like the weight of the sun.
I see their faces near me,
I hear their voices calling,
It was like their lives were over before they begun.
And I’ve heard of pious men5. Ingrid Michaelson, “Breakable”
And I’ve heard of dirty fiends
But you don’t often hear
Of us ones in between…
And in the darkness I taught myself to hate.
But where were you, oh where were you?
And where the f*** did the sun go?
Have you ever thought about what protects our hearts?6. "Epic Last Song" by Does It Offend You, Yeah
Just a cage of rib bones and other various parts.
So it’s fairly simple to cut right through the mess,
And to stop the muscle that makes us confess.
And we are so fragile,
And our cracking bones make noise,
And we are just,
Breakable, breakable, breakable girls and boys.
"Epic Last Song" by Does It Offend You, Yeah
I called today but missed you again
Today’s the day I go up in flames
I sent the money to you, my dear
Today’s the day I burn away
I say baby, babe I’ve loved you a long time
I called today but missed you again
Today’s the day I go up in flames
I sent the money to you, my dear
Today’s the day I burn away
I say baby, babe I’ve loved you a long time
7. "Samson" by Regina Spektor
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin’ on our heads
But they’re just old light, they’re just old light
8. "Control" by Garbage
The world might end,9. "Orange Sky" Alexei Murdoch
The night might fall.
Rain on down and cover us all,
And drown us with the burdens of our sins.
Maybe I’ll look you in the eye,
Tell you, you don’t wanna die.
Maybe I’ll hold my breath and jump right in.
And I had a dream10. "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" by Stars
I stood beneath an orange sky
With my sister standing by
I said, “Sister, here is what I know now
In your love, my salvation lies.”
This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin11. "Daughter" by Youth
Tried to reach deep but you couldn’t get in
Now you’re outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin
And if you’re in love, then you are the lucky one,12. "Upward Over the Mountain" by Iron and Wine
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I’m forever missing him.
Mother remember being so stern with that girl who was with me13. Greg Laswell, “Goodbye”
Mother remember the blink of an eye when I breathed through your body
So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons are like birds flying upwards over the mountain
Mother I made it up from the bruise on the floor of this prison
Mother I lost it all in the fear of the Lord I was given
Mother forget me now that the creek drank the cradle you sang to
So may the sunrise bring hope where it once was forgotten
Sons can be birds taken broken up to the mountain.
Then lonely lay the day14. "Sorrow," The National
I can’t remember you at all
And it’s not easy to say that day
Has already come and gone
And all that remains is a place
Where you no longer are
One day I won’t regret this
Oh how I want to believe that’s true
Once I pick up the parts I broke on you
I’ll get used to the idea
It’s not you.
Sorrow is my body on the waves15. Bright Eyes, “A Perfect Sonnet”
Sorrow is a girl inside my cage
I live in a city sorrow built
It’s in my honey, it’s in my milk.
It’s only half my heart alone,
On the water,
Cover me in rags and bones, sympathy.
'Cause I don't wanna get over you.
I don’t wanna get over you.
We’re singing, I believe that lovers should be chained together16. Nick Cave “The Ship Song”
And thrown into a fire with their songs and letters
And left there to burn
Left there to burn in their arrogance
But as for me I’m coming to my final failure
I’ve killed myself with changes trying to make things better
But I ended up becoming something other than what I had planned to be
Now I believe that lovers should be draped in flowers
And laid entwined together on a bed of clover
And left there to sleep.
Left there to dream of their happiness.
We talk about it all night longSo now, do you have a feel for what City of Heavenly Fire is going to feel like? Let us know in the comments!
We define our moral ground
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything, it comes tumbling down
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Your face has fallen sad now
For you know the time is nigh
When I must remove your wings
And you, you must try to fly.

After Cassandra Clare saw some Jem and Will artwork on tumblr, she decided it would be a "HERONSTAIRS DAY." And so, today, we get to read some new dialogue from Will and Jem -also known as Carstadale or Heronstairs!
Check out this very Heronstairs-y snippet:
"I love you," Will said. "I love you desperately. I have never felt for another the way I feel for you. My love for you is as eternal as the sea, and like the rocks against which the waves are dashed, again and again, it shall remain unyielding. In you I have found my own heart’s heart, which I had thought previously only to find in dreams. Never could I have encompassed a better partner, a finer friend, a more beauteous companion. Allow me just once to kiss your sweet lips."
Jem looked up from the fire, where he was petting Church. Church had fallen asleep and all his fur was sticking up. “I do wish you would cease reading to me from Gothic novels,” he said. “They give me the pip.”
"Love is a noble emotion!" Will cried, waving his arms about with such energy that the book he was reading slid from his lap. His hair was sticking up like Church’s fur, or a bit as if he had been electrocuted.
"Quite," said Jem, and rolled over onto his back, smiling up at Will from his place by the fire. Church twitched and snuffled, curling up against his shoulder. "Now read me something with a fight scene in it, won’t you?"

"Well, it’s a bit ironic, isn’t it?"Have any guesses? Let us know in the comments.
"What do you mean?"
"All that effort to convince you I wasn’t in love with you, and here I am, dying in your arms."
Cassandra Clare revealed the place holder art for the final book in The Mortal Insturments, City of Heavenly Fire. What this means is this is not the the artwork that will appear on the book, but it's just a picture to show on Amazon and other online stores in the meantime.
Today seems a good day to reveal the placeholder cover for City of Heavenly Fire! This is not the final cover, but since you’ll be seeing it all over, on amazon etc. until they reveal the final, might as well see it here first. I did not come up with the tagline, but I like it.
The final cover will of course not have words on it, but people. I cannot tell you which people. You will have to wait for the reveal. There is also an extra surprise printed on the inside cover! *dances*

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones has just been released for 5 days, and I'm sure you thought it was good enough to go see a second (3rd, 4th, maybe, 5th) time. But wouldn't it be even awesomer to own your own copy of this amazing movie so that you could watch it frame-by-frame and maybe learn some (or all) of the lines?
Check it out, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Blu-ray/DVD is already available to order on Amazon.com! Maybe, we will get to see the famous script reading with Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins. What do you hope is on the special features?
Also, might I just say congratulations for The Mortal Instruments movie! The movie made $14.1 million at the box office this week/end. For this time of month, that is an amazing amount! So, for all of you dedicated Shadowhunters who went out and saw this movie 2/3/4/5... times, give yourself a pat of the back! Looks like there will be another movie to look forward to; City of Ashes starts filming this September, 25th in Toronto.

The Tonner Doll Company, Inc. has just released the news about creating Mortal Instruments: City of Bones inspired dolls. The dolls will "feature authorized likenesses of Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Jemima West." Prweb tells us that, "each collectible figure will include hand-painted facial details, authentic costuming from the film, multiple points of articulation for dynamic poses and a stand for ease of display."
"I devoured the whole series and loved it,” exclaimed Robert Tonner, company CEO and resident doll artist and sculptor. “As soon as I heard about the movie, I knew immediately it was for us. It’s got all the good stuff: romance, action, demons, vampires, werewolves. Just ripe for the picking!”

If you've been following our tweet for a while, you'll remember when we were first counting down to The Mortal Instruments movie and we still had 300+ days to go. Now, August 21 has arrived and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is out in theatres today!
If you're really, truly excited, you'll go see the movie tonight or sometime this weekend with no question! However, if you're thinking about waiting until the theater is less busy (next weekend or something), that is not a good idea!
Opening weekend (in this case Wednesday to Sunday) is very important for a movie. It basically determines if there will be a sequel to the movie. We all want to see The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes and possibly The Infernal Devices movies too, right? So if you're going to see the movie, see it this opening week/end! In fact, see it once with your friends and see it again with your parents (or another group of friends)!
I've seen the movie once, and this weekend I'll probably see it again in Imax! (Read our review here) Also, once you've seen the movie be sure to tweet us and use #TMIMovieReactions to let us know what you thought about The Mortal Instruments movie.
Thanks so much for visiting our site, following our tweets/tumblr posts, hopefully, we can countdown to another 5 more Mortal Instruments movies!
