Questions about the Clockwork Princess trailer answered by Cassandra Clare

As you may or may not know, the Clockwork Princess was revealed on EntertainmentWeekly. As the keen fans we are, several of us messaged Cassie on tumblr:

About the Dialogue of Clockwork Princess and previous trailers:
I wrote the voiceovers for the last three — the Clockwork Prince trailer, the City of Lost Souls trailer, and this one. Generally I write a voiceover and turn it over to Dirty Robber, and they create visuals around it. I don’t know what it’ll look like till it’s done. I didn’t know the City of Lost Souls was going to be as metal as it turned out to be until they finished it. :)

About the quote "Whose heart would die with him":
“Whose heart would die with him” — well it could mean physical death, but it could also mean emotional death. Jem dies, what’s good about Will dies too, or so thinks Charlotte in CP.

Tessa's dress and the possibility of someone dying:
Characters do die. I am not going to expound on the bloody dress too much, but it’s not her blood!

Is it a wand or dagger that Will is holding?:
When I was growing up the idea that you would spin around and point a wand at someone like a weapon would have been totes bizarre. Harry Potter has changed many things! — although not the fact that there are no wands in the Shadowhunter books. Not even warlocks use them. Will is holding a dagger.

Fancasting The Infernal Devices (with Ian Somerhalder?):
I decided after actually watching TMI get cast that fancasting was a terrible idea for me and I wouldn’t ever do it again. The likelihood that whoever fans light on as their likely favorite will get cast is vanishingly small (in some ways, fans wanting a particular actor cast can make that actor’s chances worse, not better) and it creates a disconnect between the way the character is described and the way a particular actor looks. Not to say I mind anyone else fancasting, have at it, I just think as the author it’s best if I don’t have any favorites. Ian Somerhalder is cute, sure, and the same age as my husband so I don’t even feel creepy saying so.
