Godfrey Gao and Kevin Zegers Agree That "There Will Definitely Be More Malec in the CITY OF ASHES Movie"

While Godfrey Gao, and Kevin Zegers were in Mexico City for The Mortal Instruments premiere, they answered a few fan questions from Revista CinePREMIERE. One of the questions concern some talk about Magnus, Alec and their relationship in the next movie -City of Ashes:

As you know, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones came out this week (make sure you see it this weekend!), in honour of that, JustJared has made Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Godfrey Gao, and Kevin Zegers their star spotlight this week.

Just Jared: What is your favorite prop from the set?
Lily Collins: The witch light.
JJ: Did you steal it?
LC: I couldn’t, I wasn’t allowed.
JJ: Did you steal anything from set?
LC: I stole my blue leather jacket with all the rips in it. And my Doc Martens.
JJ: What was the craziest stunt that you did?
LC: Ooh! Well, pretty much running around at three or four in the morning with my heels on was enough. But I ran, I had to climb up this fire escape and launch myself off of it, after the vampire lets go of my foot, and I did it in my six inch boots and my mini dress, so I was trying not to show any skin while launching myself onto Jamie, which was interesting.

Just Jared: Do you have a favorite prop from the set of Mortals?
Jamie Campbell Bower: My ring.
JJ: That you stole?
JCB: I didn’t steal it. I asked if I could have it.
JJ: What’s so special about it?
JCB: It’s a huge point when Valentine turns it around. Also, it was probably the smallest thing that I could take. (laughs)

Just Jared: What was your favorite prop from set?
Kevin Zegers: I have these things that are called “tonfas”, which are like a police’s night sticks but they have blades on the end of them.
JJ: Did you take them from set?
KZ: I didn’t. They wouldn’t let me take them.
JJ: Did you take anything?
KZ: They gave me this little thing that has this metal like, what do you call it? Anyway, it’s like this metal dust that’s inside this little jar. So they gave me that.

Just Jared: Do you have a favorite prop from set?
Godfrey Gao: My costume, which I thought was pretty cool. I had two costumes actually. One of them was just a velvet blazer with a lot of crazy designs. It looks silky, but also velvet, and every time you move, it lights up. It’s pretty cool. The bottom, I was wearing my underwear, (laughs), so that was pretty interesting for me. My prop, maybe the towel I had, just to wrap around my legs. I needed that because it was really cold. So that was a warm blanket that I had. Actually, the warlock outfit was pretty cool too. It was like full black, kind of like a demon, a whole suit with a pullover and a black, leather corset around my waist. That was a pretty cool outfit, and I wish I would have used that for maybe my next Halloween costume or something.
JJ: Did you do any crazy stunt work in those costumes?
GG: No, I don’t have any stunt scenes, but hopefully there will be more in the next movie. This movie was just an introduction to the character, I have a few scenes in this movie and Magnus Bane is a popular fan favorite character and it develops into the second and third film as well. It’s just like the books.

Kevin Zegers Talks About Alec Lightwood and Says "He's Kind of a Bad-ass" with Bello Magazine

Kevin Zegers is featured on this month's Bello Magazine cover. Inside the magazine, Kevin Zeger talks about his upcoming movie -The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones- and the character he plays (Alec Lightwood).

“The thing that I didn’t want was for him to be some generic, prototypical character, what people would expect from the gay character,” Zegers said. “For me, it was about creating a character whose sexuality didn’t matter…I actually don’t think it’s that big of a f**** issue anymore. Certainly not with me, and especially not with the generation that read this book. So it wasn’t something that we really focused on.
But one thing I was aware of was the fact that there haven’t been many great examples of a really strong gay character, one of the leads in a really big movie who happens to be gay and who’s also kind of a bad-ass.”

Kevin Zegers Talks About Why He Wanted To Play Alec Lightwood and More with Collider

Collider caught up with Kevin Zegers at Comic Con's press line. Kevin Zegers talks about watching the final cut of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Also, he explains why he wanted to play Alec Lightwood:

What is it about this character that drew you to this project?ZEGERS: I think the things that people know about Alec are that he’s a Shadowhunter and he’s gay. They know about the whole backstory of him and Jace. The thing I liked about him was that he wasn’t overwritten in a way where I couldn’t have my own take on who he was. He wasn’t so set in stone with his behavior or the way that he is. He’s definitely clear strong and he’s very noble, and all that stuff. It wasn’t vague, but it was very open to interpretation. So, when I met with Harald and we talked about it, I had this idea of creating this enigmatic guy who you can’t really put your finger on. He’s not always the nicest guy. I feel like sometimes people feel the need to differentiate between, “These are the good guys, and these are the bad guys,” when in reality, I think we’re all capable of both. But mainly, I wanted to create a character with none of the preconceived notion of what a gay character would be. I don’t think it’s a big fucking deal for the younger generation, anyway. I don’t think it’s something that even registers as something that’s a problem. If I ask my nieces, who are 10 or 11, they’re like, “So?!” It’s just not that big of a deal anymore. But in some places it is, so I’m aware of the responsibility.

Kevin Zegers Tells Dread Central How the CITY OF BONES Movie 'rang so true to the characters'

Here is another Kevin Zegers exclusive interview from the San Diego Comic Con on Friday at the Mortal Instruments press line. Kevin Zegers talks to Dread Central about how the movie does justice for the book.

In one answer to Dread Central's Q&A, Kevin Zegers believes that "[The movie] rang so true to the characters, the story and the essence of the book." Ontop of that, Kevin Zegers explains why this adaptation will be truly amazing: "I realized the incredible amount of talent they were assembling so I knew this wasn't going to be something cookie cutter."

Dread Central: This seems like an exciting world to be part of and something you haven't really ever done before. Was that part of the appeal to you for taking on Mortal Instruments?Kevin Zegers: Oh yeah; this was something totally different for me. And so I read the script and found that I really loved this character. The world was something I thought was super-cool and I knew the books had a lot of fans but I was just hooked in by my character most of all. He was just really interesting; his back story and where he is going throughout these stories is all pretty complicated and challenging which I thought was great. So when I met with Harold and we were able to sit down and talk about it, we were on the same page in a lot of ways and I liked his ideas for my character that it really felt like a small movie being made on a big scale. It felt like when we were making this that we were making an actor's movie that just happened to have all this crazy stuff happening around them. And that's exactly what I was looking for.

Last month, Kevin Zegers tweeted about his schedule filling up for Mortal Instruments mall tours and he wasn't lying!
Looks like Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, and Cassandra Clare are all going to be doing some mall tours to help promote The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Mall of America has just confirmed that there will be a Mortal Instruments: City of Bones cast appearance event.

Date: Sunday, July 28th, at 1-3pm

Kevin Zegers on 'How LGBT Roles Have Changed on Screen'

While Cassie and Harald were at LA Times Book Festival, they let us know that there will be some Malec (Magnus and Alec) scenes in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie.

Straight.com has a chat with Kevin Zegers (Alec Lightwood), they talk about Alec's sexuality and how that made the role more interesting to play.

"Mortal Instruments is a pretty big movie and the fact that the studio feels comfortable with one of their lead characters being gay is pretty indicative of peoples' opinion towards that sort of thing, which is that you don't really have to make a big deal out of it. It's just sort of is what it is. It's just one of the layers of the characters that I get to play."
In fact, he feels that the fact that Alec Lightwood is gay actually added more complexity to the role.
