Questions about the Clockwork Princess trailer answered by Cassandra Clare

As you may or may not know, the Clockwork Princess was revealed on EntertainmentWeekly. As the keen fans we are, several of us messaged Cassie on tumblr:

About the Dialogue of Clockwork Princess and previous trailers:
I wrote the voiceovers for the last three — the Clockwork Prince trailer, the City of Lost Souls trailer, and this one. Generally I write a voiceover and turn it over to Dirty Robber, and they create visuals around it. I don’t know what it’ll look like till it’s done. I didn’t know the City of Lost Souls was going to be as metal as it turned out to be until they finished it. :)

About the quote "Whose heart would die with him":
“Whose heart would die with him” — well it could mean physical death, but it could also mean emotional death. Jem dies, what’s good about Will dies too, or so thinks Charlotte in CP.

Tessa's dress and the possibility of someone dying:
Characters do die. I am not going to expound on the bloody dress too much, but it’s not her blood!

Is it a wand or dagger that Will is holding?:
When I was growing up the idea that you would spin around and point a wand at someone like a weapon would have been totes bizarre. Harry Potter has changed many things! — although not the fact that there are no wands in the Shadowhunter books. Not even warlocks use them. Will is holding a dagger.

Fancasting The Infernal Devices (with Ian Somerhalder?):
I decided after actually watching TMI get cast that fancasting was a terrible idea for me and I wouldn’t ever do it again. The likelihood that whoever fans light on as their likely favorite will get cast is vanishingly small (in some ways, fans wanting a particular actor cast can make that actor’s chances worse, not better) and it creates a disconnect between the way the character is described and the way a particular actor looks. Not to say I mind anyone else fancasting, have at it, I just think as the author it’s best if I don’t have any favorites. Ian Somerhalder is cute, sure, and the same age as my husband so I don’t even feel creepy saying so.

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS book trailer released on EW.com

Are you totally conflicted between wanting to read Clockwork Princess and at the same time very sad that The Infernal Devices are coming to an end? Or are you torn apart between Jem and Will?

If not, the Clockwork Princess book trailer shall remind you of those feelings.
Head over to EntertainmentWeekly for the trailer
Fun fact: The actress who plays Tessa in the trailer is the same cover model who appears on the book jacket of Clockwork Princess. Also, Clare will head out on her first-ever bus tour for Princess starting on the on-sale date, March 19. So if you happen to see a fancy bus wrapped in graphics from Princess and the City of Bones movie, it’s not just an evil act of Sebastian. It’s definitely Cassandra Clare.
What do you think? Did your Jessa/Wessa feels emerge again?

Daniel Sharman Narrating Clockwork Princess

Daniel Sharman, from "Teen Wolf", will be reading Clockwork Princess
The audio book for Clockwork Princess will be available March 19th!
Here's what Cassandra Clare had to say about Daniel Sharman:
"During the casting process for the 'Mortal Instruments' movie, the casting director and I talked about probably every young actor in Hollywood. Daniel Sharman had just come off doing 'Immortals,' and I remember we talked about him as a an actor who had huge talent and promise. When we were looking for someone who could read the 'Clockwork Princess' audiobook, I thought of him because he seemed like someone who could capture the parts of the narrative that require vulnerability as well as the ones that require a great grasp of action."

Under the cut.

Tessa Gray should be happy — aren’t all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding to Jem Carstairs, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to the Magister, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan of destruction.
He needs Tessa.
Tessa knows Axel Mortmain, the Magister, is coming for her, but not where or when he will strike. Charlotte Branwell, the head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain first. And the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, and Will knows he should force himself to find someone else to care for, he is as much in love with her as ever.
In the last words of a dying Shadowhunter reside the clue that might lead Tessa and her friends to Mortmain. But the Shadowhunters of the London Institute cannot stand alone, and in their homeland of Idris, the ruling body of the Clave doubt their claims that Mortmain is coming. Deserted by those who should be their allies and with their enemies closing in, the Shadowhunters find themselves trapped when Mortmain seizes the medicine which is all that is keeping Jem alive. With his best friend at death’s door it is up to Will to risk everything to save the woman they both love.
To buy Will time, the warlock Magnus Bane joins with Henry Branwell to create a device that could help them to defeat the Magister. As those who love Tessa work to save her, and the future of the Shadowhunters that resides with her, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself —for in the discovery of her own true nature, Tessa begins to learn that she is more powerful than she ever dreamed possible. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?
Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

News About Clockwork Princess Family Tree

As we all know, first edition Clockwork Princess books will all have the family tree.
Cassie tells us that the family tree will include the generation of The Infernal Devices, The Mortal Instruments, and The Dark Artifices!
The family tree will be printed either on the inside of the book jacket (hardback) or at the back (paperback). Make sure you don't spoiler it:
you will be sorry, because you will be mightily confused rather than illuminated. :)
But how do we know if it's a first edition?
Cassie shows us the North American version:
The cover will have "Collector's First Edition" printed underneath "Book Three" (beside the thumbs up)
This will be the same with the Australian, UK/Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa's first edition:
Sadly, there will be no family tree in the ebook because -as Cassie explains- there is no way to create a first edition ebook and it has a very nice design and the publisher would like to show it in the best way possible, by paper.
A first edition is the first batch of books that printed by the publisher and when they run out, there will be no more and  thus, the best way to guarantee a first edition is to pre-order at:
Also, Cassie does not know if the family tree will be present in other languages and the best way to find out would be by contacting a local bookstore.

Unlike Cassie's other books, there will be no other special content; nothing specified to  a specific store.

Dec, 28: New Clockwork Princess Snippet

As a gift for the end of 2012 from Cassie
Tessa reached to brush the damp hair from his forehead. He leaned into her touch, his eyes closing. “Jem—have you ever—” She hesitated. “Have you ever thought of ways to prolong your life that are not a cure for the drug?”
At that his eyelids flew open. “What do you mean?”
She thought of Will, on the floor of the attic, choking on holy water. “Becoming a vampire. You would live forever—”
He scrambled upright against the pillows of the bed. “Tessa, no. Don’t—you can’t think that way.”
“Is the thought of becoming a Downworlder truly so horrible to you?”
“Tessa …” He exhaled slowly. “I am a Shadowhunter. Nephilim. Like my parents before me. It is the heritage I claim, just as I claim my mother’s heritage as part of myself. It does not mean I hate my father. But I honor the gift they gave me, the blood of the Angel, the trust placed in me, the vows I have taken. Nor, I think, would I make a very good vampire. [redacted for spoilers] I would no longer be Will’s parabatai, no longer be welcome in the Institute. No, Tessa. I would rather die and be reborn and see the sun again, than live to the end of the world without daylight.”
“A Silent Brother, then,” she said.

His eyes softened slightly. “The path of Silent Brotherhood is not open to me.”

Dec. 3rd: New Clockwork Princess Snippet

Apology Snippet
Originally Cassie, Maureen, and Sarah were going to tell us about some BIG news involving Shadowhunters and the initial 'M'.
Unfortunately, today Cassie announces that they can't, today. Cassie pinky promises that they will share the news next week.

Don't fret; instead Cassie gives us a sweet + sorrow piece of Clockwork Princess.
“You do not want to help us,” Will said to Magnus. “You do not want to position yourself as an enemy of Mortmain’s.”
“Well, can you blame him?” Woolsey rose in a whirl of yellow silk. “What could you possibly have to offer that would make the risk worth it to him?”
“I will give you anything,” said Tessa in a low voice that Will felt in his bones. “Anything at all, if you can help us help Jem.”
Magnus gripped a handful of his black hair. “God, the two of you. I can make inquiries. Track down some of the more unusual shipping routes. Old Molly —”
“I’ve been to her,” Will said. “Something’s frightened her so badly she won’t even crawl out of her grave.”
Woolsey snorted. “And that doesn’t tell you anything, little Shadowhunter? Is it really worth all this, just to stretch your friend’s life out another few months, another year? He will die anyway. And the sooner he dies, the sooner you can have his fiancée, the one you’re in love with.” He cut his amused gaze toward Tessa. “Really you ought to be counting down the days till he expires with great eagerness.”

Nov. 17: New Clockwork Princess Snippet

On Sunday, November, 17, Cassandra Clare Surprised us With a New Clockwork Princess Snippet

Jem always said that Will rushed toward the end of a mission rather than proceeding in a measured manner, and that one must look at the next step on the path ahead, rather than the destination in the distance, or one would never reach one’s goal. Will closed his eyes for a moment. He knew that Jem was right, but it was hard to remember, when the goal that he sought was the girl that he loved.

Clockwork Princess Snippet on Oct. 25

New Snippet of the Clockwork Princess
“Jem told me what Ragnor Fell said about my father,” Will said. “That for my father, there was only ever one woman he loved, and it was her for him, or nothing. You are that for me. I love you, and I will only ever love you until I die —”
